Blog #4: My History With Lego Sets
One time, one of many, my Grandparents (from the great country: Ohio) came to my house. And one of the many times that they came over, my Grandpa and I started making a little bird Lego set. I’m going to be honest, but that may be one of my greatest memories about Legos. What I now realize is that it doesn't matter what the Lego set is about, it was about who you build them with. I spent hours of my life up in my room when I was younger. I spent many, many hours just… building Lego sets. I didn’t care what they were about, and I feel that is a regret of mine. I just sat there, alone, just consuming them. When I finished one, I just moved on to the next. I usually got tons of Lego sets during the holidays, but the next morning… all built. Rinse and repeat. And that’s why that bird Lego set I built with my Grandpa still stands out to me. Hopefully next time they come over, or if I go to them, I’ll bring another bird lego set. Maybe then after that, I’d bring over another. Maybe we could start a collection.
Now, that’s not to say I didn’t adore every single one I created or built. I keep my favorites from over the years on a shelf in my office! Some of my favorites were of the “LEGO MARIO” variety, such as the Wonder Bowser Castle (search it up, it’s really cool). I also adored the Minecraft Line, but they all kind of felt the same to me. You know, mixing a blocky game and a blocky toy should have been heavenly, at least in my mind. But, all the sets just kind of looked like a Minecraft Youtuber’s 100 Day Hardcore World.
But, to the dismay of my present self, I used to have a horrid habit when it came to Lego sets. When I was very young (around 5-7), I used to just… tear apart every single Lego set I built. Demolish hours of progress, and not even build anything new! Just categorize them into bins, and mix those bins into cabinets, and shuffle those cabinets until any sorted collection looks unrecognizable. It was horrible.
Well, that’s it for this Ant Blog (still workshoping the name). Hope you enjoyed it, and this is Anthony, over and out! Have a great day.
